Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a combined 51 million spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball announced this represents the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest secured 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase compared to the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series drew 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total US viewership was over 16 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase over the previous year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
